How is the treatment for chondritis carried out?

If cryptitis is detected early and treatment is started, the therapy is usually short and almost always leads to complete relief of symptoms.

What happens if cryptitis is left untreated?

If the inflammation is left untreated or continues to deepen, the following anal abscesses or anal fistulas may develop.

How can I prevent cryptitis?

You yourself can also do quite a bit to relieve the symptoms and thus even prevent recurring inflammation of the crypts.

How is cryptitis treated?

As distressing as cryptitis is for those affected, fortunately it is well treatable. The first step is to combat the inflammation in the rectal area. For this, the doctor will initially prescribe medications such as pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory ointments or suppositories. For rapid relief of symptoms, suppositories like CANNEFF® SUP suppositories, with their respective active ingredients, best reach the exact site of inflammation, the crypts. Suppositories are also particularly convenient and safe for patients to use. Read more here about the treatment of cryptitis with suppositories.

In cases of cryptitis, the doctor will also advise patients to avoid strain on the rectum caused by stool that is too hard or too soft, as well as anal sexual practices.

If anal abscesses or anal fistulas have already formed, or if the inflamed crypts are so severely affected that they can no longer be treated with medication, a surgical procedure is usually necessary. In some cases, if cryptitis is persistent, surgery to remove the affected tissue is also required. For larger inflammations such as anal abscesses and anal fistulas, medication therapy is no longer sufficient, so the affected tissue areas must be surgically removed. Experience shows that patients recover quickly after cryptitis surgery. They can usually leave the hospital after just a few days. However, wound care is especially important after colorectal surgeries. After colorectal operations, CANNEFF® SUP suppositories can also help support the healing process and minimize discomfort.

Treating cryptitis

What is the course of treatment for cryptitis?

If cryptitis is detected early and therapy is started, the treatment is usually short and almost always leads to complete relief of symptoms. However, if the diagnosis and treatment of cryptitis are delayed, serious health damage may occur. The bowel can lose its functionality in certain areas. Although a fully treated cryptitis does not prevent recurrence, reading more about the treatment of cryptitis with suppositories can help. More knowledge about the condition raises awareness of the first signs of cryptitis symptoms as well as the importance of preventing cryptitis.

What happens if cryptitis remains untreated?

If the inflammation remains untreated or spreads deeper, the following anal abscesses or anal fistulas can develop. Therefore, timely medical consultation and examination are strongly recommended if symptoms of cryptitis such as anal itching or anal burning are present. Read more here about the treatment of cryptitis with suppositories.

How can I prevent cryptitis?

You can also do a lot yourself to relieve symptoms and thus prevent recurring inflammation of the crypts. This often involves adjusting and changing your diet to achieve firm and regular bowel movements. Exercising several times a week supports your bowel activity, and sphincter exercises can improve blood circulation in the anal region, thereby contributing to faster healing of cryptitis. The same applies to gentle massage of the anal margin with a finger.

The most important factor in preventing cryptitis is a balanced and fiber-rich diet. Fiber from whole foods with plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains stimulates digestion. Avoid constipation and drink enough water, at least 2 liters daily.

Affected individuals should definitely not delay going to the toilet, as this can lead to further hardening of the stool and thus worsen stool evacuation problems and associated pain. The accumulation of stool in the crypts of the colon is considered a rather rare diagnosis. However, it is clear that stool evacuation problems increase the risk of cryptitis. If constipation or diarrhea occur regularly, countermeasures, especially through dietary adjustments, are advisable.

Regular exercise and physical activity also play a role in preventing cryptitis, as they stimulate bowel activity. Walking a lot, cycling, or simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator can be helpful tips for preventing cryptitis in everyday life.
