In an open pilot study with 16 men suffering from chronic non-bacterial prostatitis or chronic pelvic pain syndrome, the intrarectal application of CANNEFF® SUP over 30 days led to a significant reduction in the total symptom score (NIH-CPSI, −7.2 points; p < 0.001) as well as a marked decrease in pain symptoms (−3.75 points; p = 0.005). Additionally, there was a significant improvement in urinary symptoms (IPSS median from 13.5 to 10; p = 0.002), with 81.3% of patients reporting a clinically relevant overall improvement; no adverse events were observed. The effects achieved are comparable to established systemic therapy approaches such as alpha-blockers, phytotherapeutics, or NSAIDs, but occur locally rather than systemically. The results suggest a clinically relevant symptom relief and underscore the need for further controlled studies to confirm efficacy.
